CAMP GEN. PACIANO RIZAL, Sta. Cruz, Laguna — A Sangguniang Kabataan (youth council) chair was arrested on Sunday, the eve of election, for alleged vote-buying incident in Barangay Nanhaya in Victoria town, Laguna.
Laguna police provincial director, Col. Eleazar Pepito Matta, identified the alleged vote buyer as Jhon Paul dela Cruz Pahutan, 22, SK chair of Barangay Nanhaya, who is facing charges for violating the Omnibus Election Code under Batas Pambansa 881 Section 26a.
In his report to Calabarzon police regional director, Brig. Gen. Edward Carranza, Matta said Pahutan was nabbed during the joint operation by Provincial Intelligence Branch operatives and the Victoria town policemen while distributing two sample ballots and a PHP500 bill to an undercover cop as poseur-voter.
The suspect was subjected to standard procedure of preventive search, but there was no other evidence recovered in his possession when accosted by the operatives.
Pahutan was brought to the Victoria Municipal Police Station for proper documentation and the filing of formal complaint on vote buying against him. (PNA)
