TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Feb. 18 (PIA)–Officials of the city government here recently inked an agreement with Vista Green company for the estbalishment of a waste processing facility in the city.
City Environment Officer Noel Mora said, the processing plant will be constructed at the city’s dumpsite.
According to Mora, the city has been struggling to manage an estimated 87 tons of wastes collected daily from various commercial establishments and residential houses in the city.
“We are now trying to convert our dumpsite into a sanitary landfill but we know how much budget we need to achieve its full operation. This processing facility, once realized, will help us address the city’s daily waste disposal problem,” Mora said.
He said the facility is capable of processing all types of wastes and turn them into energy for electricity generation, crude oil and industrial coal.
“The by-products, in return, will be utilized by the Vista Green,” Mora added.
He said the project will not only solve waste management in the city but it will also generate local employment for the people of Tuguegarao.
“Some of the equipment needed in the construction of the waste processing plant are already in the site. We target to complete the construction on time and make the plant fully operational this August 2019,” Mora said.
He also revealed that part of the city government’s long-term plan is the development of the dumpsite into an eco-park. (ALM/OTB/PIA-Cagayan)
