By Hemmady S. Mora

‘FOR SAFER PRESS’ – National Union of Journalists of the Philippines through the Asian Institute of Journalism and Communication together with partners held a Training of Trainors on the Safety of Journalists in Baras, Rizal, from February 20-25, 2019.

NUJP members from its various regional chapters along with Mr. John Robert Bolledo representing the Polytechnic University of the Philippines attended the training held in Punta de Fabian Resort.

The training was organized by International Media Support and Asian Institute of Journalism and Communication, and was  co-financed by European Union and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.

It envisions to produce safety experts that will train journalists all over the Philippines.

The 5-day event includes discussion on current media issues, basic life support, as well as preparation for covering conflict.

“It helps journalists protect themselves in different situations and to have a [wider] media network”, Lourdes Escaros, NUJP-National Capital Region Vice-Chairman.

NUJP regularly implements safety trainings to lessen the rising number of media-related killings in the past decades.
