PNP to meet with gov’t bodies on legal gambling forms

By Christopher Lloyd Caliwan

MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday said it will coordinate with concerned government agencies to determine forms of legal gambling in the country.

“I want to study and meet with regulatory bodies. So that public will be aware, kasi baka taya sila ng taya [because they might be just making bets] (they are not aware that these are illegal),” PNP chief, Gen. Archie Gamboa, told reporters in a chance interview in Camp Crame.

Gamboa said he has given deputy chief for operations, Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, two weeks to study all types of gambling activities, including online cockfighting.

He will then meet with the Games and Amusement Board (GAB) and other regulating bodies regarding this matter.

Gamboa said this is to determine legal forms of gambling as he cited that there are cases where no receipts are issued from these activities.

The PNP is also set to meet various local government units that have the power to grant permits for gambling activities and will later issue guidelines on the matter.

Gamboa earlier ordered an intensified crackdown on illegal gambling through a one-strike policy among police unit commanders.

On Monday, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has ordered all of its police directors to ban all forms of gambling during wakes.

The five districts under the NCRPO are the Manila Police District (MPD), Quezon City Police District (QCPD), Northern Police District (NPD), Southern Police District (SPD), and Eastern Police District (EPD). (PNA)
