New gen actresses rise above veterans, legendary names honored in Star Awards 2019

Before the ode to the new generation of stars, in 100 Years of Philippine Cinema this year, the Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) presented the “Mga Natatanging Bituin Ng Siglo” (outstanding stars of the century) Special Awards to iconic names who have shared unforgettable and remarkable contributions to Philippine cinema.

The 35th PMPC Star Awards for Movies 2019 chose to honor the following celebrities (in alphabetical order):  Nora Aunor, Tirso Cruz III, Christopher De Leon, Joseph Estrada, Eddie Garcia, Anita Linda, Niño Muhlach, Ramon Revilla Sr., Susan Roces, Gloria Romero, Philip Salvador, and Vilma Santos.

In a surprising upset of veteran prowess, it was the young adults proving themselves tonight that they deserve the spotlight as Sarah Geronimo and Katherine Bernardo were named Movie Actress of the Year for their films that both hit milestones last year.

Geronimo for her film Miss Granny, and Bernardo for the movie The How’s of Us.
