Mr. Pure Energy reaches out to PUP-Gen Z studes

Gary inspiring, encouraging and giving words of advice to participating students of PUP.

Entertainment Icon Gary Valenciano in cooperation with the Office of the Vice President for Students Affairs and Services (OVPSAS) and the Institute for Gender and Development of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), successfully held a heart-warming blend of Talk and Music by Mr. Pure Energy last October 16 at the Bulwagang Bonifacio of the PUP-NALLRC building at Sta. Mesa, Manila.

The program entitled “Face to Face with Gary Valenciano: Life is a Journey!” was meant to address the current struggles of college students in PUP. Gary says that said school is the 22nd among the universities which he has visited and that his target is to reach out 35 within the year.

The event coincided with the celebration of the “National Mental Health Awareness” week. PUP President Emanuel De Guzman in his welcome remarks stressed the importance of inspiration, motivation, and encouragement to address the current challenges faced by PUPians in their studies. VPSAS Zenaida R. Sarmiento affirmed that students nowadays have special needs that are unique to their generation. Atty. Ma. Cristina Gimenez explained that mental health is also a GAD concern and that Gary’s program will surely elicit a positive impact among their students.

Gary affirms that he could relate to the current struggles of PUP students.

Other PUP Officials present during the program were Executive Vice President (EVP) Alberto Guillo, Vice President for Research, Extension and Development (VPRED) Anna Ruby Gapasin and HRMD, Legal Counsel Office Chief Atty. Joanna Marie Liao, the Vice President for Academic Affairs Edelyn Mariano, Dept.of Journalism Chairperson Hemmady Mora, Dept. of Elementary and Secondary Education Chairperson Lina Felices and Dept. of Business and Teacher Education Chairperson Dennis Dumrique.

Gary was received with a warm welcome by PUP Officials, faculty and staff. Students were thankful for the time, words of advice, special attention and heart-felt sincerity they received from him. “Hindi ko po makakalimutan and mga personal advice na binigay nya sa akin,” said Erwin Lucio, one of the students who shared his personal struggle during the open forum portion.

In charge of the program were the PUP Mental Health Working Committee and some administrative employees who volunteered and offered support and pledges for the event .  Among the student organizations who offered their assistance to the program were the Truth Tellers from the PUP College of Communication and Kristiyanong Kabataan para Sa Bayan (KKB) PUP Chapter and PUP-JM. On the side of Gary was his production team from Genesis.

The program culminated with the awarding of certificate and PUP Pylon to Gary Valenciano and a special prayer for him led by EVP Guillo together with other PUP Officials.
