Limbo, produced this year by Brilliant Jerk Production (BJP), is a short film that attempted to capture a day in the life of a poor young boy named Anton (Zack Serrano) who is seemingly stuck in this toxic cycle of finding food and luck.
The highlight of the film is the hypersensitive, almost comical oral narration that will describe Anton’s daily expedition — from the time he would usually start it, his realities, his expectations, grumbling stomach, unspoken hopes, and how he would eventually end up in the same exact location where he comes from every morning.
It will eventually be revealed that more than food, Anton is just really looking for luck, realizing in his own simple way the role it plays on people’s lives. The narration was done by actor and activist Jun Sabayton.
Directed by Luke Miraflor and written by Mads Miraflor, the film is one of the finalists in the prestigious 31st Gawad Alternatibo and will be shown at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) from August 3-5 at Tanghalang Manuel Conde, together with the entries for Cinemalaya film festival.
Aside from the Miraflor siblings, the project included other BJP members namely Joyce Melegrito (Storyboard Artist), Jeo Santos Marasigan (Cinematographer, Editor, Director of Photography), Recx Felizardo (Script Supervisor) Carmelito Bayarcal (Aerial Photographer) Eshra Camado (Assistant cinematographer) Mairu Infantado & Angel Ramos (Prod Design) Sally Lee Loreto & Donna Faye (Production Manager), Gabriella Abayan (HMUA) Camille Lopez (Prod Design)
We remind readers that the Ika-31st Gawad CCP Para sa Alternatibo Pelikula at Video will take place during the 15th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival on August 2 -11, 2019 in Manila, Philippines.
