The Jojie Ilagan International Schools in cooperation with the Philippine Association for Media and Information Literacy (PAMIL) conducted a seminar-workshop on Media and Information Literacy (MIL) last July 22 to 23, 2019 at the T.H.E. International Management School, De Jesus St., Davao City, Philippines.
The training series was held to discuss the state of MIL in the country, identify issues and concerns such as media and information in the tourism, hospitality, culinary and entrepreneurship industry. During the event, discussions on the role of media, libraries and the academe in promoting MIL were undertaken. Creation of innovative methods for curriculum integration was also a major concern.
The program commenced with the opening remarks given by the Corporate Dean of JIB International Schools (JIB-IS) Sally Reyes followed by the introduction of guest speakers by Kenneth Bernejay Porio, a faculty of JIB-IS and also the PAMIL Regional Coordinator for Visayas and Mindanao.
Fifteen participants were JIB-IS faculty members while five were from SAIS-DAVAO. Two others were current marketing staff of the institution.
Speakers were Prof. Jomar Redubla, PAMIL Board Member from Far Eastern University, Mr. Arniel Ping, PAMIL Vice President from St. Stephen’s High School and Mr. Rommel Lopez, PAMIL Treasurer and Mindanao Bureau Chief of The Pacific Times.
Closing remarks were given by no less than the Vice President for Educational Development of JIB-IS Nicole Nina Hao Bian while the institution’s program coordinator Anne Margaret Pelingon announced upcoming events.
