CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela, Feb. 24 (PIA) — Geared towards boosting disaster preparedness and awareness among its employees, the Provincial Government of Isabela joined this year’s first Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill spearheaded by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council along with the Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP) held on Feb. 21 at the Provincial Capitol Grounds, Alibagu, City of Ilagan, Isabela.
Isabela PDRRMO Officer Basilio Dumlao said the participation of the provincial government is necessary in order to evaluate the effectiveness of various contingency plans in relation to earthquake scenario and other similar events.
Dumlao said safety is everybody’s concern and the drill is necessary especially to the employees in order to assure their safety when real earthquake will happen.
Rescuers from the Philippine Army (PA), Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Red Cross (PRC), BFP, Rescue 831 and several other agencies joined in the simulation and demonstrated to the employees the proper responses and procedures in ensuring one’s safety.
Meanwhile, the Isabela Police Provincial Office (IPPO), the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) – Isabela and other government offices in Isabela, public and private schools in the province also conducted their respective earthquake drills.
The first Nationwide Earthquake Drill was spearheaded by the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) on Feb. 21 and it is conducted quarterly. (MDCT/MGE/ PIA 2-Isabela)
