Iconography: Homage to the Shapers of Philippine Music

In celebration of the 103rd Founding Anniversary of the UP College of Music, there will be a concert entitled, “Iconography: Homage to the Shapers of Philippine Music.”

The concert will feature the works of Jose Maceda, Lucio San Pedro, Francisco Feliciano, Ramon Pagayon Santos, Andrea Veneracion, and Ryan Cayabyab, who are esteemed UPCmu alumni. These legendary icons are known for their musical legacy in the country and have been proclaimed as National Artist for Music, which the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) jointly administer.

Raymundo “Ryan” Cayabyab, an alumnus of the UP College of Music is one of the recipients of the 2019 Ramon Magsaysay Award in recognition for his compositions and performances, which have a great impact and an inspiration to the Philippine Music industry. In 2018, Cayabyab was proclaimed National Artist for Music.

The concert will be held on September 7, 2019 (Saturday), 7:00 p.m., Abelardo Hall Auditorium, UP College of Music. The concert will feature the UP Palabunibunyan, Koro Madrigal, talented guitarist Solaiman Jamisolamin, and esteemed pianists, Luci Magalit and Michelle Nicolasora.

                                                                                                                             

     Ticket costs at ₱500 (balcony) and ₱300 (orchestra). There is a ticket discount for students (₱200) and senior citizens/PWDs (₱240). For ticket reservations and inquiries, please call, 926-0026.

 

Before the concert, the Alumni Association of the UP College of Music will hold a Homecoming dubbed as “Babalik Ka Rin” from 2:00–4:00 p.m. Apart from getting together and reminiscing memorable moments at the college, famous virtuoso jubilarian pianists Raul Sunico, Mauricia Borromeo, Leticia del Valle, and Agot Espino will have a special performance.

Currently, the UPCmu Alumni Association (UPCMAA) has a “Musikalinga: Music Cares” project that provides financial support to underprivileged but gifted students. Interested donors can get in touch with the UPCMAA for their pledges that will surely go a long way in nurturing musical talents.

 

     Prof. Verne de la Peña, Ph.D., Dean of the UP College of Music expressed that “We hope to build a faithful core audience to support the UP Abelardo Hall Auditorium in its transformation toward becoming a cultural center for the community, featuring high-caliber productions year-round for the enjoyment of diverse concert-goers.”

 

     The Iconography Concert is part of the Abelardo Hall Concert Series, which the UP College of Music has prepared. There are four more upcoming concerts, which will certainly delight music lovers.
