DPWH builds 261 classrooms in CagVal

By: Oliver T. Baccay

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Feb. 12 (PIA) — The Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH) in Region 2 has completed the construction of at least 104 school buildings with 261 classrooms in the different elementary and high schools regionwide.

Regional Director Melanio C. Briosos said the new school facilities will fill-in the classroom demands of the education department, especially with the implementation of the K to 12 program.

He said the DPWH, in partnership with the Department of Education, spent P1.240 billion for the construction of the said projects, which are now being enjoyed by the young learners.

“The completion of the projects is in fulfilment of the commitment of the national leadership to improve educational facilities for children in impoverished barangays at the same time bolstering the K to 12 school program of the government in the region,” Briosos said.

The funding was sourced out from the 2018 national budget for educational facilities intended for academic, elementary, junior and senior high schools all over the region.

As of now, there are only two remaining school buildings under construction in Nueva Vizcaya province but are expected to be completed early this year.

Briosos is also optimistic that more school buildings will be constructed in the different schools in the region should the 2019 budget will be released. (ALM/OTB/PIA-2 Cagayan/ with reports from Wilson Valdez, DPWH-2)
