The City Civil Registrar’s office here will issue birth certificates, free of charge on Friday, February 22 to promote civil registration awareness pursuant to General Ordinance No. 032-2014.
Mayor Evelyn Diaz said the activity is also a part of the observance of National Birth Registration Day which is annually observed on February 23.
Since February 23 falls on a Saturday, Diaz said the City Government scheduled the issuance birth certificates, free of charge, on Friday, a regular working day for the government.
Diaz said the City Government of Ilagan acknowledges the importance of birth registration as a recognition of children’s right to have a name and nationality.
“Registration of birth guarantees the entitlement of the children on their basic rights and protection,” Diaz said.
She said the City Government of Ilagan observes 23rd day of February every year the National Birth Registration Day as embodied in Article C. Section 201.b of the General Ordinance No. 032-2014.
On February 14, 2005, former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo declared February 23, 2005 as National Birth Registration Day.
