MAGALLANES, Cavite — World boxing champion Jerwin Ancajas received a hero’s welcome here for his successful defense of the International Boxing Federation super flyweight title on May 5, 2019.
Mayor Jasmin Maligaya-Bautista spearheaded a motorcade for Ancajas, nicknamed ‘Pretty Boy’ on Wednesday around Magallanes town.
“Our local government, along with our Sangguniang Bayan members and barangay chairmen recognize the convincing win of Pretty Boy. Long live Pretty Boy Ancajas,” Bautista said in a media interview.
Ancajas, a Navy reservist, was also given a hero’s welcome by the Philippine Navy upon his arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on May 15.
A native of Panabo City, Daval del Norte, Ancajas scored a seventh round technical knockout victory against Japanese challenger Ryuichi Funai in Stockton, California.
The 27-year-old champion, who currently lives in Cavite City, has improved his ring record to 31-1-2 with 21 wins via stoppages.
He trained for five-week at the Marine Base Gregorio Lim in Ternate, Cavite prior to the fight. (PNA)
