Paulina Sapinska, a Guinness representative, verified that 2019 Bambanti Festival Isabela achieved a world record for the largest number of scarecrow-dressed dancers gathered in one venue.
Sapinska figured 2,495 people wore scarecrow costumes for two hours straight, beating the previous record of at least 250 participants.
The ‘Bambanti’ dancers came from different cities and towns in Isabela, and are part of the spirit of festivity that the festival wanted to aim through the street dance showdown.
“We have (really) aimed to gather the most number of street dancers and be a Guinness Book of World Record titleholder,” said the 2019 Bambanti Festival director general Rolando Tugade. Isabela Governor Faustino G. Dy III also expressed his gratitude towards the Isabelinos that made the week-long celebration of the festival a success.
For starters, Bambanti Festival in an annual celebration in Isabela province since 1997, and it symbolizes ‘bambanti’ which is an Ilocano word for scarecrow that represents the culture of farming in the province.
The festival this year is mostly spirited with the record-holding street dance showdown, sports competition, search for King and Queen of the festival, and Makan Ken Mainum Cook Fest.
