Army camp’s golf course to boost tourism industry in Isabela

CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela, February 15 (PIA) – The commanding general of the 5th Infantry Division, Philippine Army based in Gamu, in this province, expresses hope that the recently inaugurated 18-hole golf course inside Camp Melchor F. Dela Cruz will contribute in the booming tourism industry of this province.

Maj. Gen. Perfecto Rimando Jr, commanding general of 5th ID said the 18-hole golf course, first-of-its-kind in the Cagayan Valley region, is now ready to use by Star Troopers and other golf enthusiasts.

The inauguration was led by Philippine Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Macairog S. Alberto and Isabela Gov. Faustino G. Dy III inside the camp on February 11, 2019.

“Our goal is to have the best golf course facility open to every Star Troopers and their dependents that will also support the booming tourism industry in the Province of Isabela. With our 18-Hole Perfect Star Golf Course, we can now hold at least a regional golf tournament in the future,” Rimando said.

He said the construction of additional 9 holes to complete the 18-hole Perfect Star Golf Course, formerly known as HILL 7988 Golf and Country Club was completed through the joint efforts of officers and men of 5th ID, 513th Engineer Construction Battalion with the support of the Provincial Government of Isabela.

A 22-bay firing range was also inaugurated on the same day making the 5th ID as the lone Army Division in the whole of AFP to have a level-4 compliant firing range that can be used to hold a national level firing competition, according to Rimando. (MDCT/MGE/PIA 2-Isabela)
