Project “Teenspired,” an advocacy against teen-age pregnancy was brought to Legazpi City Science High School last September 28, with the participation of 45 grade 8 and 9 students, 28 parents and 13 volunteers made up of nurses, teachers and people from the Department of Health (DOH), Department of Education (DepEd) and Commission on Population (PopCom).
DOH financially supported the event andrepresentatives saidthey were amazed at the whole activity.
DepEd represented by Public School district supervisor Glen Nacion, Medical officer 3 of school health section Dr. June B Orense and RN-nurse 2 reproductive health coordinatorBernardita Garcia all agreed that said project was very beautiful, one of a kind, and very engaging as it touches the hearts and minds of its participants.
The Bicol regional training and teaching hospital Public Health Unit staff present during the activity were Dr. Raoul Emmanuel Santua – PHU head, while nurses who assisted were Brenda Marie Bacason-Arce RN, Pauline Yuchingtat RN, Kenn Bryan Perez RN, Justin Timothy Asagra RN and Joan Joy Sanosa RN.
Members of the Philippine Pediatric Society present were Dr. MariegellaChristeCiocson, Dr. Arlene Luduvice, Dr. Michelle M. Ador and Dr. Catherine Joy Agustin-Enciso.
A kid approached the proponents of the activity at the end of the program and said she was inspired and even had the desire to become a doctor herself.
Said PPS advocacy is led by Dr. Mary Grace Tan Uy who serves as its National Chairman for advocacy against teen-age pregnancy.
