The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) through it’s Open University System (OUS) conducted its two-day midyear faculty development seminar on trends and updates in research writing and distance education technology last June 10-11, 2019 at its Bulwagang Bonifacio, Ninoy Aquino Library and Learning Resource Center (NALLRC), Mabini Campus.
Dr. Anna Ruby Gapasin, Vice President for Research, Extension, and Development along with Executive Director Carmencita Castolo of the PUP-OUS and other key officials stressed the need to boost its research production and improve its mode of instructional delivery through the utilization of available and emerging distance learning technology.
On the first day, Engr. Luke Ivan Moro, Research Center Director of the University of Makati lectured on teaching trends in thesis writing while Dr. Mely Padilla, MEM Course Specialist of the PUP-OUS taught on appropriate language and grammar for research.
The second day was graced by OIC-Principal Angelo Armas of Sto. Niño National High School, lecturing on Google for education, followed by Ms. Sheryl Villaroman, President and CEO of Nephilia Web Technology Inc., discussing the essentials of Moodle in the academe. The last guest was Dr. Rina Angeles, coordinator for MOOCS, NCR under the US Embassy, who spoke on how teachers could upgrade themselves through MOOCs and preferred courses for additional studies.
The two-day event culminated with a faculty meeting and awarding ceremony for outstanding course specialists.
